Why is the Sequential Pro 3 not more popular?

Main Post:

The Pro 3, at least on paper, to me seems like a great piece of kit and yet there don't seem to be many reviews out there, and it doesn't rank particularly high on equipboard.com (although their metrics are questionable). What's the story?

Top Comment: Maybe it's because it's considerably more expensive than the Take 5 and it's not polyphonic. And for a mono synth of that price many might rather go for the Subsequent 37. Just a guess. I have one and it's pretty good, it's extremely versatile and I for one never had any quality issues. The Fatar keyboard is especially solid.

Sequential Pro 3 Owners: is there anything you don’t like about it? Any major flaws?

Main Post:

The title more or less covers my question. On paper I love this synth, but I’ve heard more bad sounding demos than good. The good demos are have more or less convinced me, but I would like to hear from some owners. Thank you 😊

Top Comment: Most of my complaints are about the software interface in some way. There’s no button or discrete setting for legato glide, there’s just a variation for constant time or rate glide that is legato. It’s “Constant Rate A” Which is nonsense. To change sequence settings like sequence length, I have to go into the sequence menu via the paraphonic button and then remember to turn paraphonic mode off (the manual describes another way to do this that seems to just not work) I wish slider latch was a per patch setting. I wish show mode made it ignore incoming CCs. The digital effects are nothing special and I find the analog distortion circuit isn’t quite right for every patch that needs distortion, it has trouble being... mellow? I’m not sure that’s quite right but it has a character that I don’t think I always want. I’ll try running it through one of my other synths with ext and distortion at some point. The thing sounds lovely in my mind. Check the SoundCloud playlist sequential put together for it, it’s got all the sound designers they explicitly asked to write patches. The sequencer on this thing is nuts, the wavetable morphing sounds great, the fucking OB-6 style filter on a monosynth is a brilliant choice, super unique, and the notch-ier settings can create interesting delay-like effects if used in conjunction with a cutoff envelope. I love the damn thing. It’s weird, it’s unique, it has a workflow that is, for the most part quite good, (which makes the the sharp edges stand out), the sequencer is fucking crazy, the wavetables include some unique choices and the drum wave table is enough to make full (if minimal) techno tracks on one synth. The tuned feedback is definitely something to use sparingly, it can overrun a patch fast but it’s fun. I wish it could do a couple more things like route two of the filters in series, but I understand that requires a nontrivial interface and the circuits to change that routing would probably take some trickery (even the moog one only has a fixed series filter routing). It’s so damn flexible, the wavetable makes an excellent modulation target to give it some variation and movement if you’re willing to spend the time tuning mod rate and depth, otherwise that can start to sound same-y. But it’s stupid versatile, getting a lot of the very precise, sharp sounds of the digital world with the digital oscillator and three lovely analog filters. Is it replacing my sub 37? Only until my big synth rack arrives, then they sit next to each other. Would I be upset if this was my only monosynth? Absolutely not, this thing owns. Do I think the digital effects are so they can say “all sounds recorded directly from a Pro-3” on demo tracks while still using reverb? Yes. Is the SE needlessly fucking cool? Also yes.

Does the new Sequential Pro 3 have any flaws? trying to convince myself not to buy it but not succeded so far

Main Post:

Apart from the price tag and the fact that it is obviouly a mono synth, does any of you identify any flaw or essential lack of anything?

Top Comment:

I have a Pro-3 on the way. I am absolutely psyched for it.

I'm hoping that user wavetables will be implemented at some point, and I feel like having that from the get-go was a missed opportunity.

I haven't heard a Pro-3 in person, but I have heard an OB-6 in person and I used to own an Oberheim SEM Pro (which I sold to buy the Pro-3). The OB-6 does an impressive job at catching not just the sound but also the "feel" of the SEM filter, so I have faith that the Pro-3's SEM filter will be exquisite.

I'll try to remember to give a more full report about it once I get it. I should hopefully get it Friday.

sequential pro 3 or couple synths?

Main Post:

hi guys. i so love the new pro 3 but in this price i can to buy behringer k-2, pro 1, wasp, odyssey. arturia minibrute 2s.

i have the money and ready to buy the pro 3 but in this price i get couple of synths.

what you think guys? pro 3 better from this analog synths or buy the couple synths?

Top Comment:

Speaking as somebody with at least a half-dozen smaller monosynths in my collection (including the MS20 Mini, Monologue, Boog D, Neutron, Crave, and Microbrute, and eyeing at least another half-dozen more)...honestly, just get the Pro 3 if you can afford it. It is an endgame-tier mono/paraphonic synth that can render a lot of other stuff irrelevant.

Sequential Pro 3 or used OB6-P6 desktop?

Main Post:

What you will choose if you had to spend 1650 euro! (im not rich, took me half a year save that kind of money)

Top Comment:

OB6. There's not really anything else out there that sounds like it ATM. The P6, I love the sound of, and keep looking at askance, but I have a Prologue which honestly is close enough. The Pro 3, I'd rather just have a Matrixbrute for the lower price you can find those at, and the intuitive modulation control.

Extremely pleased with my new Sequential Pro3! It has so much potential for creating classic, new and unique sounds. Especially with the wave table oscillator. A modern classic for sure!

My review of the Sequential Pro 3 SE

Main Post: My review of the Sequential Pro 3 SE

Top Comment:

Being couped up inside for so long means I've had nothing but time to play with the Pro 3. Decided I knew it well enough to do my review a bit earlier than expected. For those of you on the fence about this one, hopefully this helps push you one way or the other.
